The Magic of Books: Hobbit Wallpaper

I’ve been occupied for several days working on my special project for the big birthday coming up this week. Now that I’ve finished I’m back to having fun with Photoshop.

I came across this tutorial last week for Photoshop that I thought perfectly illustrated the magic of books. Now, I don’t know about you, but when I read a book my mind conjures up images of the characters and locations. Everything comes to life in vivid detail, if only in my mind. As much as I liked the tutorial and end product I decided to apply what I could to making a Hobbit wallpaper. If I were a little boy, this is how the world would look to me while reading the book. 🙂

How long are we going to have to wait to see the dwarves?

If you’ve read The Hobbit, then you know that neither the older version of Bilbo (Ian Holm) or Frodo (Elijah Wood) appear in this Tolkien story, although they will be in Peter Jackson’s film adaptions. While I tend to be a purist, I actually think this sounds like a solid way to tie The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit movies together.

The addition of these characters and the story adjustments that I assume must have been made to include them, have me curious. Just how long are we going to have to wait for the arrival of the dwarves–Thorin Oakenshield in particular, this is an RA fanblog after all–in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey?

Am I alone in my curiosity, or has anyone else given this some thought? Whether you’ve given this previous consideration or not, I’m interested in your opinion, so:

Hobbit actors being awesome!

I’m so excited to see The Hobbit, shocker I know. Between loving the book and being a fan of several of the actors (chief among them Richard Armitage) I can’t wait for the movies to come out. But when we get info about the cast doing cool and kind stuff–like appearing in an indie bands music video–it makes me long for the success of the movies in a way that has nothing to do with my desire for a great movie. Rather, I just like to see good things happen to good people. Appearing in a music video is probably a small thing to the actors, but for Claud Rains it means international exposure. Very cool!

You gotta love TORn for keeping us up to date on this kind of stuff. Oh, and the song is crazy catchy!
