I’m sure everyone has seen the Popcorn Taxi interview with Richard Armitage by now. If you haven’t yet, you can see it here.
There was a lot about this interview that I really enjoyed. RA and the interviewer seemed to have a good rapport, he was given time to flesh out his answers and of course there was all of that speaking with his hands (which I love). But there was one moment that really stood out to me. We already knew about the question where Richard was asked who would win in a cage fight–Thorin or Dwalin. But his reaction in the video was just priceless. It was like he was saying, “Duh! Isn’t the answer obvious?”
His reaction here reminds me so much of how my friends and I are together that it just adds another thing to the list of reasons I like Β the guy. I went ahead and made a gif of his reaction, because I was watching these few seconds on repeat anyway.
Oh, and this post definitely gets the beardy goodness tag, because look at that gorgeous facial hair! π
We are totally on the same wavelength…I replayed that part twice! I have admit, I’m definitely changing camps on the beard π
His reaction there was so great that I imagine a lot of us watched it more than once! We don’t often get to see him being playful in interviews which, for me at least, makes it all the more noteworthy. Are you coming over to the beardy side? It is a thing of beauty! π
I’ll admit, he wears it *really* well π
He’s saying, “Do you really have to ask?” π
Exactly!
As soon as I saw the interview, I knew that would become a very popular Gif. Tumblr ate it up.
It really is the best. Non-committal and yet says everything. And it’s a bit of a “Bring it!”. Great stuff, that interview, but this Gif is priceless!
That was definitely one of those moments that you knew would be a standout. He didn’t have to say anything, because his answer was so clear in the non-verbal response. Part of me thinks it was also an expression of his relationship with Graham McTavish, especially when taken along with his insistence that the calendar was his idea and that we shouldn’t listen to what Graham said on the subject. It could totally be just my imagination, but I picture them as buddies who joke around and give each other a good-natured hard time.
I was there on the night, so it was great to revisit the experience via video. What struck me again was how RA took lots of opportunity to be cheeky and flirty with the audience. Instead of being overawed by being the focus of all that attention, he embraced it, and happily played to the (mostly female) crowd.
Was watching the video almost like watching a home movie? RA seemed to be so relaxed and laid back during his time in Australia. I love that he took the opportunity to be cheeky and flirty with the audience. Just another side of him that we don’t get to see often!
He sure did, Katharine, didn’t he, the cheeky devil? Cheers from another Kathryn who was sitting in the front row at the Orpheum, relishing seeing that beautiful man close-up again in the flesh! π
I was in the second row! Chances are we were right near each other in the upstairs queue. A very special night- never to be forgotten!
A question, if I may. Does anyone have experience with fan conventions? I’d like to go along to Sydney Supanova in a few weeks to hear Aidan, Adam and Jed talk about filming (no photos or autographs though), but I don’t know if I’d feel silly in amongst all the young fan girls. Thoughts?
He was just so relaxed and happy that evening. He didn’t seem intimidated at all that there were 750+ people gazing lovingly at him! Maybe that was it – maybe he felt the love and it made him feel at ease and had him acting in such an informal way. This is definitely one of my favourite interviews – and I was sitting in the front row which is a bonus!! (Its a shame popcorn taxi cut the bit out where he recognises Meri and I from the tv studio that morning and jokes with us about not changing his clothes)
“Felt the love”. That is it exactly. That kind of energy cannot be missed at such a volume. I am very sure that had a major factor in his responses. That, and all the experience with the interview process, ad nauseum (for him – not us). I mean, how did you feel walking into that room? Besides the excitement of looking forward to seeing him, didn’t that room just bring such an affirmation and sense of unification with like-minded people who are radiating the same kind of excitement?!
Same is the feeling most every night in when doing theater and receiving that from an audience, and why he would wish to go back to theater at some point.
At the risk of sounding ungrateful (because I did love that interview), but Popcorn Taxi spent so much time editing with “enriched content”, that they overlooked the fact that we would rather have preferred more – no, ALL – of Richard’s reactions, as well as the bits with you and Meri, than have waited half a month for the video’s release. Shame that.
I just watched the interview with Michelle Fairley from Game Of Thrones which PT did recently, and it was edited in the same way, with footage blended in. I actually think we were fortunate to get as long a video as we did because a quick look showed most of their others were 12 minutes at most- only John Cleese scored a longer video.
Bechep, I really wish they had included where he acknowledged you and Meri as well! It was so fun hearing all about your account of the trip and it would have been wonderful to seen the video of it.
Loved the interview, love the GIF! Thanks Jas, for sharing!!! His reaction to that question was priceless. I watched that bit more than once and giggled every time! lol
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who watched that bit more than once! It really was a great interview. I’m so glad it finally went up for us all to see.
that reaction is one I tend to use myself, so it was funny to see him use it. my facial expressions and hands say more than my words do, most of the time π
Me too, Kelbel75. I think watching him do something that both I and many of my friends do is part of what made the moment stand out for me. Are you one of those people that can’t speak without their hands moving? That’s how I am, and I wonder from watching many of RA’s interviews if he’s the same way.
if I’m not using my hands, then they are in my pockets π if I’m trying to explain something though, I absolutely must use them!
That is exactly how I am too. The days I don’t have pockets I’m in trouble if I need to restrain my hands! π
Great RA interview response moment captured in your gif!
Thanks, Grati!
Playfull Richard is my fav Richard:) I was waiting for that kind of questions.
Great Gif ! Thanks Jasrangoon:*
Thanks, Joanna. I agree, there is something especially endearing about playful Richard! I’m glad he made an appearance in that interview.
