Happy Easter everyone! I hope that if this special day means something for you, that you are enjoying the celebrations.
In the last couple of days I got a spark of inspiration. What was it this time? Well, I thought I would try and figure out how to make my own screensaver. It turns out that this is a multi-step process…at least the method I found. It started out with making an animated gif in Photoshop, which thankfully I already know how to do. Then it was on to converting it to an swf file in Flash (gotta love free 30 day trials). The last step was using a freeware program that converts the flash file into a screensaver. The program was not only free, but also really straightfoward!
So here is the gif I started out with (I had to shrink it for WordPress):
Now that I know how to do this, I think I’ll go back and see if I can make something a little more polished. If anyone is interested in a copy of the screensaver, you can download the install file here. I love that once I installed the file, I simply had to go into the personalize option and select this as my screensaver. Believe it or not, I’m all about easy! 😉
Actually, I don’t believe that this was easy 🙂 But it is pretty! Happy Easter.
Thanks, Serv. The making part wasn’t necessarily easy, but the installation was! 😉
That is cool…can I ask how long it took you – ballpark?
Thanks, Obscura. I think it took somewhere around three hours, maybe four. I could be low balling that though. I tend to lose track of time when I get engrossed in a project.
You chose wonderful pictures! OOOF! hahaha … Gosh, I need to learn more skills. Thank you for the lovely work. Hope you’ve had a Happy Easter!
Thank you, Berta! You only need to learn more skills if you want to. I’m a firm believe that when it comes to fandom we should do what makes us happy and inspires us. 🙂
Oh, I do want to. The thing is, everything I have learned from computers I learned on my own because my generation was the last one that went to school without personal computers. It takes me longer to figure things out. I’m not really a geek, I’m more of a nerd! 😉
I understand, Berta. I only had a couple of computer classes in school, so I’m very much self taught when it comes to all of this stuff as well. All I can say is thank goodness for talented people who put tutorials out there for free on the internet!
Yes, I have to remind myself to look for them. I need to make a habit of it if I am going to learn more skills. Do you know if it is possible to learn to make quality gifs without having Photoshop?
Have you tried GIMP? My first several gifs were made with it. It’s not as good as Photoshop, but if you want to make gifs that are mostly several frames of a scene, one after the other, it works really well.
What a fantastic screensaver! Great job!!!
Thank you very much, Mayra!
Awesome! I love it. Will have to attempt installing it.
I’m glad you like it, Snickers’ Mom. You’ll have to let me know if it installs okay.
yeah, will try after I get the new you know what
Any luck on getting something new?
That is one pretty cool screensaver. I don’t even have Richard on my home screen. My oldest son set me up with one of Buckingham Palace, when he set up my laptop, I have yet to ask him how I go about to changing it.
Thank you, Katie. Buckingham Palace is nice, but if you want to change it to something a little more inspiring *cough* Richard, I’m sure any number of people in the fandom would be more than happy to help you figure out how to do so!
Wow! This is very creative of you and you did a fantastic job.
Thanks so much, Xenia. Every once in a while the creativity strikes and I just go along for the ride! 🙂
You are just bubbling with creativity! I love it!!! I will have to try to download it. Thanks so much for sharing your talents!
Phylly, thank you for the kind words! You’ll have to let me know if you have success downloading it.
Great job!
Thanks Grati! 🙂
